“We had our wedding at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden this past September and were so happy we chose Trumpetvine as our caterer. Deborah really knows her stuff: She works at the Botanical Garden often and knows what will and will not work food-wise and lay-out wise given the space and resources (i.e. there’s no industrial kitchen on-site) which was a huge help for us, especially given that we didn’t have an event planner. But most importantly, she was by far the most knowledgeable and creative caterer we met in our search. We found that the other caterers we consulted offered very “cookie-cutter” options, particularly for vegetarian dishes. Deborah worked with us to create incredible, unique mouth-watering dishes for our wedding (including a crowd-pleasing farro and lentil delight with kale, summer squashes and roasted pumpkin seeds — YUM). Her food was seasonal, wholesome, and just plain delicious. All our guests raved about how fresh and flavorful the food was; and some of our foodie-friends even said that it was the best food they’d had at a wedding. The menu was crafted perfectly– Deborah and her staff integrated our preferences and tastes with extremely fresh, lively, and seasonal ingredients. Perhaps because they have been in the business so long, they seemed to know the best local vendors and had many great ideas for flowers, wine, and music. Deborah also has such an artistic eye and was extremely helpful in putting ideas for colors and decor together. “We hired Trumpetvine for our June 2011 wedding at the Brazilian Room and we were VERY happy with them throughout every step of the process – from our initial tasting to menu planning to event execution. Deborah and Michelle created a completely customized menu just for us; they crafted new preparations and combinations that fit with our tastes and our wedding theme. This is in contrast to other caterers we met with from the Brazilian Room list that claim to give you a customized menu, but really you’re just mixing from a pre-set list of dishes.
Deborah also advised us on wine pairings and quantities, and she advised us on our floor plan. We had something we wanted to do, and she proposed an alternative that ended up being much better (as opposed to making us come up with an alternative on our own). On the day of the wedding, everything was beautiful: the table setup and linens, the buffet, the passed hors d’oeuvres, and the bar. The food was excellent and what prompted me to write this review is that we just defrosted leftover food from the wedding and its SO GOOD and tasty just like it was back in August! I am blown away actually how delicious it still is. That aside, I was from the camp that I wanted great food for the wedding but I know it’s not what people remember, etc. That said, I cannot tell you know many people complimented the food after we got back from our honeymoon. “Deborah and her staff did a great job at my daughter’s wedding. The food was delicious, beautiful, and the staff was professional. We had several changes at the last minute. Our family had several different dietary needs and Trumpetvine was able to juggle them and provided a yummy menu. She even made Mac and Cheese for the many kids that were in attendance.
